How to Use
Add during the boil or steam; for extra heat sprinkle on seafood after removing from the liquid. For shrimp, adding 1/2 cup margarine or cooking oil while boiling can ease peeling. Longer soak increases spiciness. If too spicy, rinse with water. Adding ice after the boil slows cooking and enhances flavor absorption and peeling.
Alternate Steaming & Chest Method
- For steaming without seasoning in the pot: use 4 inches of water, cover and boil.
- Steam crabs/crawfish 10–12 minutes; shrimp 8–10 minutes.
- Layer seafood and seasoning in a styrofoam ice chest, cover tightly and let stand 12 minutes; seafood will stay hot for up to 5 hours.
Caution: Only use styrofoam ice chests; other materials may warp.
