Usage and suggestions
Use this Gumbo Base with stock and your choice of meat or seafood. Traditional thickeners include okra and file'. File' should be sprinkled over finished gumbo and not cooked in the pot.
Cooking examples
- Add smoked sausage (andouille), chicken, seafood or combinations thereof.
- For Chicken Gumbo: combine precooked chicken, Gumbo Base and 6 cups water or stock; simmer 20–25 minutes.
- For Seafood Gumbo: combine shrimp or other seafood with Gumbo Base and 6 cups water; simmer 20–25 minutes.
