Preparation
Remove seasoning packet from beans. Rinse and drain beans. Place beans in a 4-quart pot, add 10 cups water and stir in seasoning packet. Add meat or substitute beef/chicken stock if desired. Cover, bring to a boil, then reduce to a low boil and cook 2–2½ hours until beans are tender, adding water as needed. Serve over rice.
