Tony Chachere's Gumbo Base Mix is a 3 oz seasoning packet that makes a quick gumbo base on the stove or in the microwave. Prepare on the stove by combining the packet with 6 cups water and 1½ lbs of seafood, sausage or precooked chicken; bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes (for seafood add after 15 minutes). For microwave: combine 6 cups cool water, contents of package and 1½ lbs protein in a deep microwaveable dish; cook 15 minutes on high, then 15 minutes at 50% power, let stand 5 minutes. The mix contains onion, garlic, turmeric, spices, chicken meat and bouillon components as listed on the label.
