Preparation
- Microwave: Combine 6 cups cool water, contents of packet and 1½ lbs. seafood, chopped sausage or precooked chicken in a deep microwaveable dish. Cover and cook 15 minutes on High, then 15 minutes at 50% power. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir and serve over rice.
- Stovetop (stock pot): Precook 1½ lbs. of meat (seafood need not precook). Stir in 6 cups water and gumbo seasoning packet. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes (add seafood after 15 minutes). Ladle over steamed rice.
Each 3 oz packet yields about 4 servings per container. Nutrition per serving: 60 calories, 0g total fat, 1360mg sodium, 12g total carbohydrate, 2g protein. Ingredients include enriched wheat flour, dehydrated onion, chicken bouillon and spices.
