How to make gumbo
- Microwave: In a deep microwaveable dish combine 6 cups cool water, a packet and 1½ lbs. seafood, chopped sausage or precooked chicken. Cover; 15 minutes High, then 15 minutes at 50% power. Let stand 5 minutes and stir.
- Stovetop: Precook 1½ lbs. meat (seafood may be added later). Add 6 cups water and a packet. Boil, reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes (add seafood after 15 minutes). Serve over steamed rice.
Each packet provides about 4 servings per container. Typical nutrition per serving: 60 calories, 0g fat, 1360mg sodium, 12g carbohydrates, 2g protein. Ingredients include enriched wheat flour, dehydrated onion, chicken bouillon, dehydrated bell peppers, garlic and spices.
