After its long-anticipated close, 2016 is finally over.  Although we’re sure you’ve seen the ubiquitous New Year’s Resolution posts graze across your social media channels at least once every hour (for the past week)...we’ve decided it’s not too late to hop on the bandwagon! As we look forward in 2017, here are our top resolutions for a ‘New Year, New Me’ — the Cajun way!

Lose Weight

First things first, I’m switching to Bud Light...gotta start somewhere.

Challenge Myself

Some people want to run a marathon, but me? My goal is to PR in pounds of crawfish eaten in one sitting — I’ve only got a month and a half left to train for Crawfish Season 2017!

Take Up a Hobby

They say finding a hobby as an adult can be challenging — the trick is to find your passion. Well, nothing gives me that joie de vivre quite like the sound of an accordion and fiddle coming together for the perfect two-step groove! This year, I think I’ll learn to dance the two-step...on beat!

Experience New Adventures

Sure, Mardi Gras is far from a new adventure for anyone living here in South Louisiana, but come February 28th, I’m ditching the parades and opting for a more traditional celebration down in Mamou/Church Point — the Courir de Mardi Gras. You can try to keep up with me, but even in costume, running through mud, I’m gonna be the one to catch that chicken!

Travel More

With more than 100 festivals each year, who needs to travel out of state for a vacation getaway? I’m planning a “staycation” road trip to attend as many food and music festivals across the State as possible — laissez les bon temps rouler, cher!

Eat Healthier

Cholesterol and Cajuns just don’t mix, so this year I’m going to start eating healthier. I guess it’s time I start actually measuring my seasonings...but I’m not sure how to survive without my fried sac-a-lait!

Get Organized

I’m getting rid of everything except my good Magnalite and cast iron pots — if it doesn’t season, it’s not worth it!

Spend More Time With Family

Us Cajuns are known for having strong family ties. In 2017, I’m going to make it a point to spend more time with my family — how else am I supposed to learn to cook rice and gravy or perfect my pralines!

general , fun
