Cabbage Casserole

I know that a lot of people don't like the smell of cabbage cooking, but this simple casserole is so good you won't mind.

Cabbage casserole

  • Makes about 4 servings
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 small head of cabbage, cored and coarsely chopped
  • Salt, cayenne, and black pepper to taste
  • Breadcrumbs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Brown the ground beef in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Add the sugar, allspice and cabbage. Season with salt and pepper. Stir to mix. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 15 minutes. Pour the mixture into a casserole and top with breadcrumbs. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve warm.
